From T3/DS3 to OC3 internet connection
Trunk Level 3 high-speed Internet connection runs through T3/DS3 Technology (Digital Signal Level 3) and it is capable of transmitting data at 44.7 million bits per second in two-way directions. DS3 Technology is also termed as Data Service Level 3 or Digital Service Level 3 broadband Internet connection used mainly by Internet Service Providers (ISPs) and large business enterprises for the main trunk connections to the Internet. A Trunk Level 3 point-to-point dedicated broadband line comprises of 672 voice and data channels of 64 Kbps each in parallel network connection to improve the link speed beyond any single cable or port. By using DS3 Technology, transmission of digital signals at 44.736 megabits per second is possible including a full-time video and a very large database through a busy networking system.
A Data Service Level 3 link is capable of handling even the most bandwidth-intensive applications by increasing data transmission rates of about 43-45 Mbps. DS3 Line Cards are used to get optimum DS3 services and these cards help the Gigabit Switch Router (GSR) to stay connected to high-speed DS3 connected leased line service. DS3 line cards are electrical-based networking solution while OC-12 line cards work through optic fiber networking system. Both of them provide high-speed Internet service and they work on DS3 Technology. With the deployment of 3G Wireless WAN (Wide Area Network) service and router-integrated 3G Wireless WAN interface, DS3 technology has brought remarkable change in Trunk Level Internet service. Through ordinary residential modem, it is possible to transmit data, but Trunk Level Internet service provides hassle free, unlimited, secure, huge amount of data transfer at the shortest possible time span. DS3 WAN cards work through high-performance Wireless LAN Controller Module (WLCM) that support up to twelve wireless access points simultaneously. Data Service Level 3 card transmits consistent, high quality voiced data through Wireless Local Area Networking System. By implementing DS3 card, you can improve productivity and reduce average cost of your business enterprise. Data Service Level 3 card and Integrated Service router bridges the gap between the wired and wireless Local Area Network. DS3 connection is a comprehensive service, which is secured because of it’s embedded routers and single, resilient platform. Different organizations prefer to use this technology because they can benefit from this technology by using not only T3 link but also Optic Carrier networking system. For Wide Area Networking System, bandwidth and application optimization control network performance and efficiency. Integrated switching also reduces total cost by incorporating switch ports within a router – helping to act both router and the switch to work on a single platform.
OC3 stands for Optical Carrier 3 that determines the speed of fiber optic networks and works on the SONET (Synchronous Optical Networks) system. Optic Carrier 3 includes a combination of signal to transmit digital signals through optical fibers. The efficiency of OC 1 is 51.84 million bits per second. Some of the Optical Career levels use Asynchronous Transfer Mode (ATM) for better performance. Content providers, ASP, Internet Service Provider (ISP) and big enterprises with dedicated Internet server, generally use optical Career lines. In big corporate organizations where larger amount of data is needed to transmit, high-tech research institutions, universities, airport complexes, and casino and in video parlors, Optical Career system is used extensively. An Optical Career 3 can comprise of three DS3 (T3) or a single 155M pipe. In this case, it is beneficial to use DS3 than Trunk Level 1 because each DS3 can be separated out individual T1s. The speed of an OC3 connection is 155Mbps, which is equivalent to three T3 lines or 100 T1 lines. While an Optic Carrier 12 connection is capable of transmitting data at 622 million bits per second that is equivalent to 14 T3 lines or approximately 414 T1 lines. There are other facilities available for the big corporate companies, who can use OC12 line, which is capable of transmitting data faster than OC3. A single OC12 is nearly equal to four OC3s and runs at 622 Mbps and provides an excellent point-to-point IP (Internet Protocol) delivery connection. One of the facilities of using OC 12 is that it is capable of allowing unlimited IP addresses that is very necessary for any big company with multiple users. An OC48 provides reliable fiber optic interface for large networks, which requires transmission of extensive volume voice, data, and video within short time at 2.45Gbps. Actually, an OC48 is equivalent to 48 T3 line or 1344 T1 line in terms of data transfer.
OC 3 providers with the latest know-how of optic fiber connections, installs local area network and connects them with Wide Area Network. This system costs less than wired Trunk Level connections. It is because, OC3 providers do not need wire to connect them with the main Internet server.
